3.12 Pittsburgh BIG PAPAS - QB Connor Cook

In the real world: Andrew Healy of ESPN.com noted that Cook had the benefit of playing with the most NFL-caliber teammates of any prospect in this year's class, including All-America left tackle Jack Conklin. Unlike his predecessor at Michigan State, Kirk Cousins, Cook was never voted a team captain. He only completed 56.1% of his passes despite not facing a lot of particularly strong defenses (note: it was at 58.1%--consistent with his previous two seasons--before he injured his shoulder last November against Maryland). His accuracy on short and mid-range passes is particularly maddening--he's been guilty of "putting too much pepper" on his short passes; in short, for all his experience, putting the right "touch" on his passes is still a concept that eludes him.
In the TUFF world: "A backup for Andrew Luck" was on Pittsburgh's shopping list entering this draft. They had passed up QBs Jared Goff and Carson Wentz at 1.12, although that was understandable because they needed to handcuff RB Jay Ajayi (which is why they took RB Kenyan Drake). However, Cook isn't going to be Luck's backup, at least not anytime soon.
